Buses provide a vital public transport backbone in Sydney, where the population is forecast to grow by 1 million (c.20%) over the next 10 years.
In October 2019, Transport for New South Wales announced a new competitive procurement approach for 13 (out of 14) contract regions of the Sydney bus services. These contracts are designed to provide bus customers with additional services and innovative options, such as On-Demand Transport, to raise public transport standards and offer a higher level of service to customers.
In 2021 and 2022, North Star supported bids for four regions, namely:
- Region 5 – South Western Suburbs
- Region 8 – Northern Beaches
- Region 9 – Central Business District and Eastern Suburbs
- Region 10 – South and South Western Suburbs
