Global Air-Rail Market Share Report 2016: Air-Rail Market Share Still on the Rise

November 2016

North Star Consultancy has just released its annual review of the global air-rail market share for air-rail operators. The report shows a continuation in the surge seen in last year’s air-rail market share, which is driven by targeted investment by participating operators in marketing, the customer experience and customer perception as well as competitive awareness. The graph below demonstrates the trend.

This year the report has delved yet further into an analysis of digital presence and digital marketing and what effect this has on market share in 2015.

“For the fourth year, North Star has again provided an insightful report detailing market share trends from around the globe.

I commend North Star for their excellent analysis, which is very informative. It is encouraging to see that the air-rail industry has further strengthened its position as the preferred mode of airport access”. Tim Anderson, CEO of the Airport Link Company, Sydney.

Noormah Mohd Noor, CEO of KLIA Ekspres in Kuala Lumpur said, “This is truly a global exercise in benchmarking as we have operators from every continent. The benchmarking helps us see if we are on par with global standards, and where we can make improvements. More importantly, the sharing of best practices and ideas helps all of us, as we are not in competition with each other.”

Richard Brown, Managing Director of North Star Consultancy said: “the positive results of this report are indicative of the great efforts made by air-rail operators worldwide to both maintain and improve their position amidst a fiercely competitive environment that includes many alternative transport options. The index shows that overall our participants have beat the competition and grown their share. It is a privilege to present this data as operators use our reports to share rail service intelligence and excellent practice for the benefit of all”.

North Star will report on 2016 results by the end of Q3 2017. Non-participating air-rail operators are invited to join by contacting Alex Wiid at
