Matthew Knight - Senior Consultant

Matthew is a rail specialist with extensive experience and knowledge in operational planning gained in both the rail and airport sectors over the last 17 years. He has the skills to forensically analyse and dissect an organisation, recommending strategic changes to improve both profitability and productivity. More recently, Matthew has developed his skill set to include timetable and rolling stock planning. His career has developed from front-line operational roles to managerial positions, responsible for leading teams and for delivering highly successful projects.

Since joining North Star, Matthew has deployed his strong analytical skills on a diverse range of assignments in the UK and overseas. He conducted a review of roster processes and resourcing at key Southeastern stations, identifying efficiencies and potential headcount savings. For Trenitalia c2c, Matthew completed a review of driver rosters and T&Cs that resulted in a 15% efficiency saving. Additionally, he developed the station resourcing bid strategy for both Abellio’s South Eastern franchise bid and MTR’s West Coast Partnership/HS2 franchise bid. In the Middle East, Matthew conducted an efficiency analysis of Serco’s Doha Metro and Lusail Tram bid submission and created a workforce plan to deliver the Tel Aviv Red Line extension.
Most recently, he was Operational Planning Lead for Connect’s bid for Jerusalem’s light rail extensions, developing a timetable, headcount and rolling stock requirements, workforce plans and rosters the delivery of the operations. Matthew is now leading a performance improvement initiatives for the Transport for Wales network.

Prior to North Star, Matthew worked for Heathrow Airport where he was accountable for the planning of workforce requirements to deliver maintenance activities across Heathrow, whilst improving efficiency and productivity. Matthew spent five years working for Heathrow Express where he successfully delivered multiple timetable and roster changes, and four years at Eurostar as a Roster Manager for both station and traincrew rosters.
