Mark McCole - Director of Rail

Mark McCole

Mark is an experienced and successful Operations Director and Bid Director with service delivery, operations and performance, transition and mobilisation, financial and commercial management and customer service expertise. He has 26 years’ experience in the UK and overseas, working on large and complex projects. Throughout his career, Mark has successfully delivered projects and managed railway operations in both Brownfield and Greenfield rail environments, developing himself a proven international track record for outstanding delivery within challenging environments. Mark is currently conducting detailed audits for the mobilisation of the Tel Aviv light rail system and is providing light rail operations expertise to the mobilisation of LR3 (Copenhagen’s new tramway).


Mark has extensive operational expertise. He began his rail career as Operations Controller for Manchester Metrolink, progressing to Operations Manager for Croydon Tramlink and Operations Director for Manchester Metrolink. In 2007 he took on the role of Operations Director for the Dubai Metro (including two years prior to opening) where he mobilised the operations department and subsequently led it to become one of the highest performing metros in the world.


More recently, Mark has worked in business and bid development, working on and leading some of the largest rail projects in the world alongside with governments, clients and world leading PMO organisations. As Transport Development Director for RATP Dev, Mark was responsible for business development opportunities in the UK, Ireland, North America and Asia. Previously, Mark was Serco Middle East’s Director Rail Development (Africa, Middle East, Asia and Australia), where he led bidding and business development of rail projects across these diverse regions. Notably, Mark has been involved in a number of winning bids, including for the operation of the Al Sufouh (Dubai) Tram, Saudi North-South Railway and Doha Metro/Lusail Tram shadow operations. Mark also has extensive experience in service start-ups, having held positions on a number of mobilisation teams including LR3 in Copenhagen.
