James Bonehill - Consultant

JB headshot

Throughout his degree, James took a keen interest in transport and mobility studies and wherever possible, opted for modules relating to these subjects. He chose to focus his final year on mobility, producing a first-class dissertation on the mobility experiences of people with Cerebral Palsy in Harborne, Birmingham. His research received support from an international disability organisation and was designed as a piece of action research that aimed to actively make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities who experience mobility challenges in their local community. James’ work was nominated for a RGS/IBG Social and Cultural Research Group prize for the best undergraduate dissertation. As well as this, a lecturer at the University of Lancaster is working to publish his dissertation to highlight its significance within disability studies research. In addition, James conducted research in Brest, France on “Assessing the accessibility of Brest’s tram network for the visually impaired” which uncovered some rather discrete issues with regards to accessibility to emphasise the importance of working at the customer level.

James’ degree has prepared him for the working world with key skills including: working to dead-lines; digesting, understanding, and interpreting information and strong writing skills.  His ability to write to an exceptional standard has been recognised by various university awards including achieving the best overall mark within the geography cohort in the 2015-16 academic year and by being listed on the Faculty Honour Roll for a first-class mark in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
