North Star Welcomes Stations Specialist Mike Bones

We are delighted to announce that Mike Bones has joined North Star after 20 years at Virgin Trains. Mike brings with him a wealth of rail experience gained over 30 years, mainly within the customer service and operations sectors, where he has held a number of senior management positions, including project management, specialising in stations.

After a number of years managing frontline customer service delivery, Mike went on to successfully deliver a number of high-profile station infrastructure schemes. A number of these were Department for Transport Committed Obligations, including the £70m Car Parks Expansion Programme and the development and implementation of Station Travel Plans. He also led the Stations elements of the Virgin West Coast franchise bid and more recently the successful Virgin/Stagecoach bid for the InterCity East Coast (ICEC) franchise. His subsequent role mobilising the ICEC franchise is another impressive element in his portfolio.

With his great passion for customer service, Mike offers a unique blend of skills and experience that offers high-quality project management and a deep understanding of minimising impact on customers and staff. An excellent example of Mike’s dedication to the customer experience is back in 2008/9 when he was part of the Senior Project Management Team at Virgin Trains. The team led the development and execution of the Virgin High Frequency Timetable, transforming passenger growth on the West Coast Mainline. His role as 'Head of Customer Service and Culture' perfectly encapsulated effective project management whilst recognising the importance of cultural change.
