Associate Director - Operations and Safety

Nigel Holness has 23 years experience in the rail industry and has worked in the public and private sectors. He has held a number of senior roles within operations, customer services, safety and engineering with the last 5 years at Director level.

He has acted at the lead customer for infrastructure upgrade and maintenance providers ensuring that such schemes deliver to customer needs. He worked at London Underground as Service Director managing the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines and as such has significant experience of leading large scale service delivery teams in complex multi-site operations.

He has experience of leading major operational change programmes such as Oyster card introduction, new timetable introduction, customer information projects and performance scorecard development. In his last position Nigel was the Operations and Safety Director for First Capital Connect where he led the Train Operator’s operational, safety and performance planning arrangements for the £5.5bn Thameslink programme.  In this role Nigel also delivered major improvements to train service reliability and punctuality helping to drive customer satisfaction up to its highest recorded level.
